    Basic Allowance For Housing (BAH) gives active service members two options for housing; living on post or finding a home off-post within the community.

    • Once you have orders to move, contact the Residential Communities Initiative (RCI) (845) 938-2500. They can answer all of your housing questions and provide services such as referrals, resolving tenant-landlord disputes, and guidance for entering lease agreements.

    West Point On Post Housing

    • Unaccompanied Housing is reserved for single Soldiers ranked E1-E5. Contact the RCI listed above for housing assistance.

    • West Point on-post housing is privatized and managed by Balfour Beatty Communities (845) 446-6407, which offers 2-6 bedroom single family, townhome and apartment style units with varying amenities, such as: garage, washer/dryer hookups, central AC and porch. The community features sport courts, a soccer field, playgrounds, a community garden and more.

    Surrounding Areas 
    Highland Falls, Cornwall, Washingtonville, Cold Spring, Beacon, and Highland Mills are smaller communities which also offer off-post housing to West Point. This area along the Hudson River once played a major role in the Revolutionary War. A typical commute in the area is around 22 minutes. The Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown metro area has a large population of 670,300, though it is not even in the top most populated places in the state. It is now more commonly known as the New York-Newark-Jersey City metro area, but the facts remain more or less the same. Downtown New York City is about an hour and twenty minutes south of West Point. Other nearby cities include Peekskill, Gardnertown and Monroe.

    About the Installation
    The United States Military Academy at West Point is located north of New York City near West Point, New York. The academy is a four-year, coeducational federal institution which has one of the oldest campuses in the country. The campus itself is a popular tourist attraction and has its own visitors' center. Anyone looking to enroll at West Point must be nominated by a congressman as well as have stellar academic records. The West Point Cemetery is full of famous military graduates including George Armstrong Custer.
